People of Color

Physically, objects can be said to have the color of the light leaving their surfaces, which normally depends on the spectrum of that light and of the incident illumination, as well as potentially on the angles of illumination and viewing orientation.

Some objects not only REFLECT light, they can transmit light or emit light themselves, which contribute to the color also. We are interested only in reflected light for this discussion, not with objects that by themselves transmit or emit light. Some generalizations of the physics can be drawn regarding REFLECTED light, neglecting perceptual effects:

a. Light arriving at an opaque surface is either reflected "specularly" (that is, in the manner of a mirror), scattered (that is, reflected with diffuse scattering), or absorbed – or some combination of these.

Constitutional Scholar Obama Questions Legality of Slavery Ban

This week, Barack Obama's challenge is to select a running mate who's young, hip, and whose accomplishments in life don't overshadow Obama's. Allow me to suggest Kevin Federline.

The only thing we can be sure of is that Obama will choose someone who is the polar opposite of all his advisers until now. In other words, it will be a very, very white male who was probably proud of his country even before being chosen as Obama's running mate.

Obama's got a lot of ground to make up following that performance last weekend at the Saddleback presidential forum with pastor Rick Warren.

After seeing Obama defend infanticide with the glib excuse that the question of when life begins is above his "pay-grade," Rev. Jeremiah Wright announced that although he's known Obama for 30 years, he only recently became aware of how extreme the senator's viewpoints were. Wright, after all, has his reputation to consider.

Mexico shirks responsibility for illnesses

Mexico shirks responsibility for illnesses

The continuing folly of our government's "regulatory" agencies (who seem not to be able to regulate their way out of a paper bag) underscores what I've already told you about this whole salmonella fiasco.

According to the latest news, the FDA seems to have FINALLY tracked the source of the recent outbreak of salmonella. And guess what? The source was traced to irrigation water and a Serrano pepper from a farm in (where else?) Mexico. This "key breakthrough" finally brings to an end the massive hunt for ground zero in the recent spread of Salmonella Saintpaul that first started back in April.

This time, it's not U.S. producers that are at fault, but the questionable sanitary practices of farmers from the Third World that are the root cause of the latest outbreak of nastiness here in the U.S. Would someone please tell me when our government is going to wise up to the fact that Mexico is NOT Canada South? This place is rife with the kind of health and food problems that routinely plague other impoverished Third World nations. Mexico's proximity to the U.S. doesn't mean that what happens there is any different than what happens in the poorest countries in Africa or Asia.

What Is a 'Windfall' Profit?

windfall.gif

The "windfall profits" tax is back, with Barack Obama stumping again to apply it to a handful of big oil companies. Which raises a few questions: What is a "windfall" profit anyway? How does it differ from your everyday, run of the mill profit? Is it some absolute number, a matter of return on equity or sales -- or does it merely depends on who earns it?

Enquiring entrepreneurs want to know. Unfortunately, Mr. Obama's "emergency" plan, announced on Friday, doesn't offer any clarity. To pay for "stimulus" checks of $1,000 for families and $500 for individuals, the Senator says government would take "a reasonable share" of oil company profits.
